Because prejudice based on skin color is not racism

I saw him about 3-4 years ago and I guess he could have changed his mind by now? Maybe he is two-faced or maybe he just phrased that poorly and he wanted it to be interpreted in a less bigoted way.

The first time I spoke to him he had opened for Cocorosie, two white sisters from France who are (my all time favorite band) incredibly talented but weird af. I spoke to him outside the venue while smoking and he was friendly to me and my friends. He seemed genuine when he said Cocorosie were gifted and he was stoked for the opportunity. Maybe he was nice to them because cocorosie is also very into activism (they focus on human trafficking and animal rights though).

Also people make stupid bigoted generalized statements all the time while not acting/believing that it applies to everyone. I'm not trying to say that makes it right, but pretty much everyone does that with some group of people. (Republicans, democrats, old people, stinky babies, Southern people, etc..)

It's so dumb when people try to protest a preformer for making a disagreeable statement. Most preformers have said controversial stuff at one point and I think that unless they're intentionally supporting violence or hate crimes they probably won't make a significant change. Besides, if you're actually decently intelligent then you're going to be thinking for yourself and not basing your views on everything that comes from one person only because you like them like.

I mean just look at most brands that had a group of people saying to boycott them. Chick-fil-A, Budweiser, Apple, Coca-Cola, etc.. are all still making bank.
