Depends on the game. Things like deck builders? More stuff is great.
But I think to something like Isle of Cats. When I heard there was a second Kickstarter coming, I wrote it off. The game is great, it doesn't need more of the same.
And the designer thought the same thing. I was swayed when I read his design diaries. He looked at the 2 places where he saw player's decisions didn't really matter (player speed and first cats/starting location) and created simple, elegant, and appropriate options that were easy to implement.
Similar thing with Wingspan and Oceania. A 1.5 edition kind of thing. Because no matter how much a designer play tests a game, if it gets popular there's going to be so many more playthroughs than a person can do.
