Been a graphic designer for 9 years... does anyone else hate logo design?

Perhaps this due to the people you’ve had bad experience with? When someone asks for just a logo, 100% of the time they don’t understand their needs or what they’re doing.

I get that it’s a downer to encounter clients that don’t know what they’re doing and don’t know the actual value of something they’re asking for. Especially aggressive cheapskates that want the world on a spoon.

I love making branding and identity from scratch but not one off jobs for just a logo (I avoid them like the plague). What I do to keep my interest is focus on only working with certain industries that interests me and have a minimum price cap for projects. My minimum is $5k and this is not even expensive, this is lower end standard pricing or still cheap to some who knows value.
