First off we aren't talking about wars. We are talking about national crime.
Also was the last time the USA was invaded? You think any country will ever be able to take us over with a nearly 1 to 1 weapon to population ratio? We could literally have an army of 350 million people of which at least 100 million are trained in weapons handling to at least some degree.
The UK is an island and already had tight gun laws. Australia's ban did really nothing. Cat is out the bag in the USA. What are going to do with the ones in circulation?

Ban was in 1996. The usa murder rate dropped as well and we have more guns than ever. Further the gangs and the people doing most of the murders won't be turning them in. At some point law abiding gun owners are going to join the criminals but I guess that is what the left wants.
You want to get rid of the 2nd that is fine. But you better then be ready toss a few other amendments and let the police go door to door searching you house whenever they want. Stop and frisk everywhere. Police can pull you over at any time in public etc etc. Because that is the only way it MIGHT work. Of course if we did that we could bust all the drug dealers anyways. The police know what house are drug houses. They know who the gang members are. They just can't do much about it. Do you like stop and frisk? Do you want the cops searching your house on a whim?
Anyways let's take NY and CT as some examples. They have estimated 95% noncompliance rate with their latest gun bans and registration.
So now what? They are all felons now. Start arresting people and fill up the prisons. If you weren't going to enforce the law why did you pass it? Americans will not surrender their weapons if a national ban is passed and God help the poor souls if they try to enforce it by going door to door.
So while your UK and Australia case is cute people will still kill each other. But to you liberals it's way better if someone is killed with a knife than a gun.
Our crime rates are at freaking all time lows. Accident rates are at all time lows and for whatever reason the Dem's decide to make guns an issue.
28 people die on our roads daily because of DUI. Alcohol as no positive impacts on society. It is a worthless drug. And we could actually do something about the DUI's. Put a breathalyzer on ever new car. I'm sure everyone reading this has most likely argued with a drunk about driving at some point in time. Instead we'll try and ban some scary black weapons used in less than 200 murders a year.
