Beginner tips?

Here are some very basic tips:

  • Direct insertion is a thing! You can put a gear assembler next to a conveyor belt assembler and place an inserter so that the gears go directly into the belt assembler.

  • Start figuring out some basic ratios and plan ahead. For example, you want to make some green circuits? How many copper wire per minute does each green circuit assembler need to keep crafting continuously? That will tell you how many wire assemblers to make.

  • Everything is complicated. Don't be afraid to iterate (tear down and re-design) constantly.

  • Give yourself more room than you think you'll need between sections of factory (it's better to have more room than you need than not enough).

  • Experiment with building discrete facilities. For instance, instead of building a giant glom of assemblers that crafts red science, green circuits, green science, etc., try building self-contained mini factories that produce the item you want and then use belts to link your mini-factories together.

  • Research the bus concept
