Behold: Public bathroom stalls in Europe. No awkward gap in the doors!

But the difference is there are actual public toilets that are free in the US. You don’t pay for them. I’m talking about in parks and train stations. In Germany, for example, you have to pay to go to the bathroom in a train station. And from my experience they’re not any cleaner than other public bathrooms. Plus in many restaurants and cafes they have bathroom workers who harass you for money. I’ve been physically threatened for not paying one of these people before.

I understand that many people on Reddit want everything to be better in Europe than the US. But speaking as someone who has lived in France, Germany, and Spain this isn’t a made up issue. Everyone in this thread wants Europe to do it better. But charging people to go to the bathroom in public facilities or even restaurants is inhumane. I often find myself struggling to find a restroom in most European cities. In America I’d just go to the public toilet or one in a fast food place. But you can’t do that in most of Europe because they lock the doors with keypads, turnstiles, and in Germany they have old Putzfrau yell at you and demand money. Don’t act like this isn’t a thing.
