Being a pet owner is like being a sugar daddy. You waste all of your money on keeping them happy, and the only thing they do is look cute and give you attention sometimes.

The examples I gave in my flippant response were making dinner and driving somewhere.

There is a whole spectrum of help, and I don’t expect to go to the far end with my parents. Even though they don’t need it now and I’m hoping we’re decades away from needing to have a solution, we’ve already had conversations about what happens when they can’t drive anymore, etc.

For helping them out now, it mostly comes from my mom or dad asking for help with something they don’t have time/experience to do. I don’t always have time to help out, but I do put helping them out as a semi-high priority in my life. It also depends on what they ask - I’m not gonna drop everything I’m doing to help my mom google something, but I will put a higher priority on something health related or time sensitive.
