Woah that's like the teacups exercise. The teacups exercise is a range-of-motion exercise for the wrists (and whole body). It explores the full range of motion of the joints. It take two full turns of the wrist (720°) to return to the starting position.
What else is interesting is the cube animation works because of the ribbon shapes. The body can be considered as a bunch of ribbons too, connecting to a center, with clearly defined front, back, and sides (eg radius and ulna).
I was taught in baguazhang that any movement should made with that teacups-ribbon mechanics, and of course those mechanics extend to the feet too.
