Bernie is the only candidate addressing this fact.

A lack of funding leads to a lack of exposure which leads to a state of constant stress with no visible way out, simply because the stigma of these illnesses is never fully addressed in childhood, and often take full affect during adolescence. The ability to form any sort of good habits is outruled by the constant struggle to survive and simply cope, compacted by the inadequacy of not knowing how to deal with a very real and very personal problem.

Mental illness exists in every facet of society, it is the person's ability to access how that illness affects them and deal with it in the best way possible, but without access to knowledge and more importantly reinforcement of valuable habits there is little hope of escaping the surreal cycle of both mental and economic oppression. The impoverished are simply gridlocked into suffering through it if they have no social network they can rely on for insights or any freetime to come to understand their own problems and activly engage steps to help themselves.

It's easy to say "pull yourself up by the boot straps" when you have had plenty of practice doing it and the one you're patronizing doesn't even own boots or see the point in the broken straps on the mangled pair they own. They have to worry about how to simply provide shelter for them or theirs, in an era very unlike that of our elders who grew up during one of the largest economic booms in history.
