What he needs to do is convince the people who don't believe it. What he needs to do is highlight that the solution to climate change is actually perhaps the quickest and most conclusive solution to the "real" threat.

Okay, fine, Middle East Terrorism is the greatest national security threat. You win. But really, ask yourself why we're there. Ask yourself why we keep going back to this region of the world where we have no fucking business! Ask yourself why it is possible for terrorists to indoctrinate and breed hatred for a country that is an entire ocean apart from their recruits. Why do we think twice about insulting Egypt? Why does the western world pussyfoot about allowing Saudi Arabia to chair the UN committee on Human Rights? Why do we give these countries the time of day?

Plenty of countries hate us. Plenty of countries have religions that contradict our values. Plenty of countries have radical militants. We've bombed plenty of countries too. But none of them fuck with us! You'd think a bunch of disaffected poor youths in Vietnam might have an axe to grind with America, but look at how effective simply getting the fuck out of there and never coming back has been. Why is it that these countries in particular keep wanting to fuck with us?

It's because we keep fucking with them. And why do we keep fucking with them?

It's the goddamn oil, stupid. It's the fact that we keep having to go back there like tweaking junkies to an abusive dealer. It's the fact that there is a serious debate among the Republican primary contestants where the front-runner isn't afraid to come out and say that the biggest mistake in the Iraq war was that we didn't take the oil.

Seriously. Take 5% of the military's budget and put it into energy independence. Make solar and wind and hydro our next Manhattan Project, and watch our geopolitical issues with the Middle East simply...disappear.

Climate change may not be the biggest threat to national security. But there has never been a better "kill two birds with one stone" scenario than striving for complete renewable energy independence.
