Bernie Sanders Has A Plan To Revive Labor Unions

Part of the restructuring of the auto companies involved a lot of concessions from the union. They started with the retiree healthcare plans and dumped those, dumped the jobs bank program, scrapped their in house security, janitorial, and grounds keeping staffs and contracted those out to third parties. They also went to a different wage system, with new unskilled hires starting at $14 per hour and minimal health insurance and topping out at $19. Skilled trades start at $21 per hour for pre-apprentices, $25 per hour for apprentices, and $28 per hour for skilled trades. These days they aren't even taking on new apprenticeships for maintenance trades, just keeping the manufacturing trades like the model makers, assembly inspectors, and tool makers. I'd say the union learned quite a bit in the process and corrected itself as needed. Fun fact, long before bankruptcy, employees of GM called it Generous Motors.
