Bernie Sanders: "In the twenty-first century, a public education system that goes from early childhood education through high school is not good enough. We must make public colleges and universities tuition-free."

I like German schools, but there's also a bit of an elitism problem from what I recall from some research. There's 3 paths a German student can take: Hauptschule ("Main School" - grades 5-9), Realschule (grades 5-10), and Gymnasium. Gymnasium is the only one that leads to college/university as it grants an Abitur (diploma).

There's a fair amount of elitism with parents wanting their kids to go to Gymnasium and not be on a vocational track like Haupt- or Realschule. The elitism comes into play with economic class from what I recall.
