So recently, I had a discussion with a fundie really rocked my world so here is an argument that he presented against evolution. Thanks for checking it out I am putting out a bunch of new stuff as well. That's cool that you're a biology major! Very exciting! And I'm glad that somebody acknowledges that it is a theory. I don't know how often people approach it like it is fact, or even that it is taught as if it's fact. But here let me share the theory that Dr. Kent Hovind has. Now, I have had this belief for quite some time, but Hovind brought up some very interesting points that i had never considered or thought about so I am pretty excited to share them. Also, keep in mind, a lot of the points I will be making are originally grounded in the Bible and I will refer to scripture a lot. I'm not sure if you have any sort of religious belief, but I don't think that it is necessary as much as you might think once you see how specific the Bible really is on some topics. Also, I'd like to say that I DO believe in MICRO-evolution; i.e. horse and zebras share a common ancestor, different types of dogs share a common ancestor. But I DO NOT believe that dogs and monkeys came from a rock or primordial soup. Hovind's theory establishes these basic ideas; - The Earth is 6,000 + years old - The flood of Noah's time destroyed the Earth BEFORE the flood - The Earth before the flood had immensely different living conditions than the Earth of now - There is NO evidence for evolution - Carbon dating, and other forms of fossil dating, are extremely inaccurate I'd like to start my argument by saying this; we have DE-EVOLVED. In the Bible it states that man, Adam even, lived to be 900+ years. With that fact examined, we can infer a number of things; - People lived longer than they did today - Animals must have lived longer than they did today - Humans and animals were structured vastly different than they are today - Thus, living conditions must have been different BEFORE the flood Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. ^ This scripture denotes that humans prior to the flood were GIANTS. I believe that a great disaster occured on earth close to 4,000 years ago that changed not only the living conditions of the planet itself, but also diluted the capacity of the Earth to harbor men and animals to the same standard as before the flood. Consider this, if the Bible is true, then God created Adam and Eve as PERFECT beings. Following the flood Noah actually OUT LIVED his sons by hundreds of years according to the Bible. If that is true, then what I am saying is coherent with that account; the living conditions changed after this traumatic event. There are over 200+ accounts of the flood from all different cultures. Each of these stories maintain the same relative details; a man, his wife, and children got on a boat with animals and floated until the flood subsided and they repopulated the Earth. This link doesn't house all of the legends but a good deal of them http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/flood-myths.html#Greek[1] Being a biology major, I'm sure you are familiar with the fact that something is fossilized when living tissue is immediately cut off from oxygen and placed under extreme pressure; is that not completely coherent with the flood story? "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights." (Gen 7:11-12 KJV) "The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;" (Gen 8:2 KJV) "And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth." (Genesis 6:13 KJV) Notice how in this particular section God points out 'fountains of the deep' and also how he will destroy the human race with the Earth. I bring up this point to share another belief; the Earth was 80% land and 20% water at one point in time. I believe also that the tectonic plates and cracks in the Earth are the result of these 'fountains of the deep' cracking open. I believe that an immense amount of water was already stored WITHIN the crust of the Earth prior to flood occuring. If this was the case, then water coming from these tectonic plates would be boiling hot and quick rising which would FOSSILIZE anything living creature not fast enough to escape this flood in addition with the rain. Also the fact that God states he will kill them with the Earth is a very interesting thing to look at. Earth means 'land mass'. God did not send an earthquake or landslide, but rather a flood. This denotes that the flood, to an extent, must have come FROM the Earth itself. This brings me back to another point that the Earth we have today is much different than the Earth before the flood. I will get more into that a little bit later. * I encourage you to look into the pyramids that are literally thousands of feet beneath the water. Atlantis is another discussion, but it is also a very real thing. In the same way that there are accounts of these flood stories there are hundreds of discoveries on GIANT human bones and skulls from around the world. Nephillim is the term used to describe these findings. Once again, I encourage you to do your own research. Multiple human skeletons the size of up to 12 feet have been found across the world in multiple locations. Of course there have been fakes, but I encourage you to dig past the lies and look into the truth. There are several credible articles and images of these findings. In the same vein, there are several other HUGE animal skeletons found across the world. Giant muskrats, giant hamsters, giant crusteceans, turtles, bears, you name it; DINOSAURS. That is something I will touch on later, but reptiles are an animal that NEVER stop growing. Iguanas can grow up to 9 feet in length; now what about if the living conditions were different? This article describes hundreds of flood myths originating from cultures all over the globe. 8:35am Whoops, still got more 9:19am Let's go into that. The archosaurs, such as pterosaurs and ichthyosaurs (sp?) were said to be massive dinosaurs but still have only the nostrils the size of a horse. Many of the dinosaurs, even if they were from Jurassic Park, would not be able to function in todays climate and air pressure for the very reason that they couldn't breath or support themselves. Not to say that this is a reason for extinction for every species, but it is something to look at with the overall picture. Larger humans, larger animals, large dinosaurs; how? We are supposed to be more advanced but it is clear that as a people we are sick and weak, living only up to 120 years at most, even with the strictest diets. Once again, this must mean that living conditions were different before the flood. *Did you know that there are trees, thousands of feet tall, that are rooted beneath 'millions' of years of sediment? How would something like that be possible according to evolution? Just a side note; no tree will live past 100 once it dies or is uprooted let alone millions upon millions. HOW were living conditions different before the flood? The Bible goes into that. This is where the theory expands a little bit and dives into a realm that is quite reliant on Biblical scripture, I won't lie, but the theory that is proposed is very plausible and there is some evidence to support the possibility. Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 2 Corinthians 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Peter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Please read those verses carefully because they are crucial. According to the Bible, and referenced by these verses, there are heavens, meaning more than one. In fact, the Bible notes THREE heavens. The sky, a third heaven with God, and a second one that is located between the two. Look at the very specific wording in 2nd Corinthians; such an one caught up in the THIRD heaven. This heaven is with God, which superposes that there is a second located between the sky and heaven. Then we go onto 2 Peter; they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old; the earth standing OUT of the water, and IN the water. This is a crucial point in this next statement. I believe that the Earth, at one point, was surrounding by very DENSE and extremely cold ICE. Suspended in place, like the sattelites of today, this shell would maintain itself around Earth and not melt nor change due to the nature of space. If this theory is true, and if the Earth was surrounded by this extremely dense and cold layer of ice, it would allow for a number of things. If the Earth were surrounded by this dense layer of ice, then the Earth's air pressure would be doubled.
