Best city to be musician in?

In my opinion, the location where you establish yourself isn't as important as actually establishing yourself in that place. I grew up in Minneapolis and played all over town for a while, but always had this thought in the back of my head "Minneapolis isn't where it's at. I need to go somewhere else." Took me leaving to realize Minneapolis is where plenty of shit is at! And people knew who I was there and would actually like, show up if I was playing somewhere haha. I had established something! And now I live in Portland and have no friends.

Also yeah, about Portland/PNW music scene from a listener's standpoint. I came here thinking "that's where the music is!" I'm finding out that this is where music I've never heard of is. All the artists I know, those bands come out this way once every like 4 blue moons, if they come out to the coast they'll hit LA and SF and head inland as fast as fucking possible, and I'm over here looking at all these touring schedules and seeing all these great shows about to happen in fucking Arkansas and North Carolina. Plenty of old hippies come out here and play though! So if you feel like throwing down 80 bucks each to see David Crosby it's the place for you.
