Best Heavy Games for 2 Players?

I just bought Polis (2020) for my wife and I about two weeks ago. I spent the first week off and on, reading the very dense rulebook. Back to front, like three times, because there isn't a single f'ing video online of the newer edition. So I cant watch a playthrough or rules description. Plus I'm unfamiliar with the original Hegemony edition, so when I watch the older videos (of which there's like 2!) I cant tell what made the cut.

I can say after reading the book 2-3 times, I think its mostly the same. The problem is I'm still mostly lost. There aren't gameplay videos. So I dont really have any frame of references for this stuff. I tried teaching my wife, and every few minutes I'm looking in the book. She lost interest. I lost interest. I got frustrated. We never finished and haven't touched it since.

It seems like a heavy, deep strategy game. I feel like maybe if I played with somebody who was more into that style of game it might be a hit. BGG users who play it love it. Its probably one of the heavier games I own.

I think what this is really, is a cry for help. Can somebody record themselves playing the newest edition of Polis and just walk me through it, so I can teach my wife? I want to love the game. I want to have fun with it. Maybe its too heavy for us, but we own heavier games according to BGG and we love those. I think I might just be a visual learner, and I'm just drowning over here!!
