Best University cities in the Netherlands? (Maastricht, Groningen or Amsterdam?)

I grew up in Groningen and studied in Amsterdam. I would say Groningen is more of a compact city where most things can be found in the centre. The student community is pretty thriving and gives a great vibe to the city. The compactness makes it easy to feel at home quickly as you learn your way around the city.

Amsterdam is bigger, less student centered and has several neighbourhoods where things can be found. The centre is also dominated by a lot of tourists these days. You’ll get to know the neighbourhoods, but it takes a while. There’s loads to explore and do, which can be great, but also overwhelming. Might take a bit longer to find your place in it all.

I don’t know a lot about Maastricht, only that it houses lots of nationalities as it’s close to both Belgium and Germany. The university will also be more international I suppose.
