I’ll second Kino no Tabi. The writing may not seem like much at first, but if you get used to the way it’s written, you’ll see that its emotionally detached style is deliberate, and that it does shift its tone to invoke certain emotions if it wants to. I’ve made an RT! topic for it with links to where you can read the series, here. Whatever you do though, don’t read the official Tokyopop release of the first book. It’s an extremely liberal adaptation of the original text and will give you the wrong impression on the series.

AURA: Maryuuin Kouga Saigo no Tatakai — A high school drama focusing on the topic of the bullying of hose who are deemed social outcasts. It’s a one-shot novel with a complete fan translation.
