Betta Fish on the facebook group I'm in. Commenting had to be shut off because people were railing on the kid. They has seven betta all in similar conditions.

I'm in it and saw this post as well. Apparently the poster is from the Philippines, and their standards for fish-keeping aren't as... standardized? High-maintenance?... as people in the US, Canada and Europe. Good-sized plastic and glass tanks with filtration probably cost much more for them than for us, and the warm temperatures sometimes nullify the need for a heater. If they're getting good food and frequent water changes, I wouldn't crucify someone living in those conditions keeping fish.

HOWEVER, the condition that water is in is gross and doesn't look at all like it's got healthy tannins or gets changed on the regular. Group OP mentioned hoping their fish would live for months, which was pretty appalling.
