Better idea: Non-transitioning trans people have a degree of privilege that often goes unacknowledged

I hear what you’re saying. Almost every day that I’ve been transitioning, I’ve wondered to myself “What would life be like if I didn’t have to do this?” I imagine it would be amazing to not need to transition.

It is absolutely a privilege to not have dysphoria and not have to go through medical transition. As much as transition has helped me and made me happy, I would prefer not to have had to do it.

But I don’t personally see a bunch of non-transitioners going around lording it over those of us who do need to transition. I’ve personally never seen a non-transitioning person act like they’re right and we’re wrong, or like our experience is inferior. I don’t see them doing anything to us, you know? I think there’s a tendency to try to separate the trans community into groups, and look at people different from ourselves as some imaginary boogey man. It happens on both sides. We have to be careful not to feed into that.

But yes, as a theory, I do agree that there are certain privileges that some people have that we don’t. But we might have some that they don’t, so what’s the use of fighting?
