It's better to be rich and mediocre than poor and bright in the UK, admits Education Secretary

Leftie monarchist.

Personally, I'd be more in favour of republicanism if our current parliamentary democracy wasn't so messed up. I cannot and will not support a second tier of democracy that is anything like our current system. Whilst the fact that an elected head of state will be used as a political powerplay like every other aspect of our democracy (instead of listening to and valuing discussion and greater good for all), the monarchy is a better alternative as far as I am concerned. Ironically, the Royals care more about the poor and disadvantaged with the wealth to change it (whether by force or choice) than elected politicians do. It's easy to see why rational leftists would prefer a monarchy in that scenario.

Secondly, it's a 'necessary evil'. It will be a constitutional clusterfuck removing them. So good luck anyone who wants to draft some sort of resolution for that. They're also a tourism boon for the country. Whether people like it or not they bring in way more money than we spend on them. So again, good luck filling up that hole in the treasury when funds are cut elsewhere across government spending.
