It was a better time....

That was the partially the case. Dreamcast was indeed an amazing console and new kid on the block Sony came in like a freight train. They dominated from early on. Good marketing and cool looking black discs and great console performance and great titles. It was the sexy new must have thing.

Meanwhile Sega tries to make a come back with Sega Saturn console came in their following console generation. Much more powerful system made to be more competitive hardware wise. However, It was harder for devs to program for so not the most port friendly console....worse yet it was the current most expensive console of all the consoles (of the main ones). I loved my Saturn too but the catalog of games always languished compared to the others. PlayStation and Nintendo just dominated while Sega languished and made it worse with poor choices on Saturn.

Saturn was the final death knell for that company as a console maker. I still miss not having Sega be a balancing force to Nintendo, it kept Nintendo in check (price wise) and helped Nintendo push harder too. Sega was always like the middle console between Nintendo (which were always family and kiddy games) and Sony which was raw adult focused games...Sega could dance right in the middle (which is honestly why I loved them the most).
