Between Trump protests and endless indy chat, I think we need a wee bit breath of fresh air: What is your favourite thing about Scotland? What aspects of our country make you think "I fucking love it here"?

I'm English, but my family does have a very strong Scottish background and my grandparents came from Glasgow. I just call myself English because I've got an English accent and grew up there, so it's simpler. I sound English, I grew up in England so I am English, but I've always been aware of my Scottish family background as well. Even had other kids calling me a "jock" when I was young, though back then I had no clue what a jock was.

When I first moved to Scotland I discovered that macaroni cheese in a pie is a thing. I instantly realised that Scotland was my spiritual home. Macaroni cheese is literally my favourite thing ever, after pies. Combining them? Utter fucking genius.

Scottish people can be both very irate and angry, yet very chill and friendly all in the same go. I love Scottish people. Humour is the best as well. Burnistoun for example just kills me. Still Game as well.

I grew up on Oor Wullie, The Broons and tablet as a kid. It's kinda nice coming up here and seeing tablet everywhere and Wullie statues in peoples' front yards (yes I've seen this), haha.

Hogmanay wasn't celebrated so wildly in our family, but steak pie and vegetable broth was tradition on new year's eve. I'm pretty sure this must've been a Scottish thing. My English friends didn't really know anything about it.

While my family has Glaswegian roots and I love Glasgow (I kinda have to!), I've made Edinburgh my home due to circumstances in my life. Edinburgh is an amazing city and I feel privileged to live in it. Riding the 4 bus over the hill to work I get a great view of the hills and it's impressive. Scotland is a stunning country. I also learned that I love haggis. Never actually ate it before I moved here (which is odd considering how Scottish my family is... maybe it's just harder to find in England), but it's really fucking tasty. Definitely dig the haggis.

I think I'm just gushing a bit, but I'm very glad to be living here even though I am so far from my family. It's a lovely country and everyone here has been so friendly to me. They don't care that I'm English. Any anti-English hate people may hear about must be some extreme outlying cases. There will be assholes everywhere, after all.
