Biden on people calling him a socialist: ‘Give me a break, what idiots’

In my American education, Communism/Socialism (never, ever a detailed discussion about either, really) was just implied as not the American way, USSR was a "Communist (TM)" country, Cold War, space race, yadda yadda. Socialism was only ever glossed over.

Thinking back, the anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti were called, generically, "Communists" by one social studies teacher I had, but at least the lesson pointed out how they were very likely innocent and that it was a political conviction/execution. I just didn't really get the feeling that it was a very important thing to care about (for some reason...).

Other than that, any kind of socialist movement (in any form) from/in American was completely scrubbed from my American education. As was any responsibility America had for "Manifest Destiny" and it's removal of life, land, and autonomy of the indigenous peoples of North America as well as the Monroe Doctrine in South America which, essentially, has had the same effect.

Something, something about how a government run education system exists to perpetuate the government's authority/existence.
