Biden will release nearly all available vaccine doses in break from Trump administration policy of holding back stock for second dose

I agree. I recently received communication from the health authority here saying that they decided to prioritize administering the first doses to as many people as possible in the priority groups to protect the great number of at-risk people in the shortest amount of time. In this statement they argue that longer intervals between doses of other vaccines have not been shown to reduce effectiveness, and note that the Pfizer and Moderna trials showed that strong protection is achieved after the first dose.

I don’t know how they chose this interval but they say they will be giving the second dose at around 35 days instead. In other news, most acute inpatient physicians and staff are still not vaccinated. They are prioritizing LTC residents over medical staff (with the exception of ICU/ED/Covid unit). Not ideal for the many physicians who consult all around the hospital including in the ED and ICU.
