Is it a big disadvantage to not use LinkedIn?

I personally do not use LinkedIn but realize I may have to in the future. I was a Loan Officer. As LO's we have to provide a 10 yr work history. If you ever work with an LO, you can look them up here:

I looked up two of my former co-workers. One has far more gaps on his 10 yr work history then his LinkedIn profile states. Another told us she was 25. Either she had her first job while in HS and continued there for a few years or she is really 30 something. She looked older than 25 but was also very hard partier.

As far as LinkedIn, there are two reasons I would prefer not to use it...

1.) LinkedIn along with other social media companies seems to have little to no regards for users privacy:

2.) I have a few gaps in employment and while I have no problem addressing them in an interview, it does feel like "smiling with missing teeth" to show everyone a profile where I've been out of work 8 months, 10 months and now going on 6 months in the past few years.

3.) I filed a wage claim against a previous employer and don't want to be associated with them in any way.

I suppose I could just wait until my next job and just list that....
