Big Little Lies - 2x02 "Tell-Tale Hearts" - Episode Discussion

I picture Mary louise like my ex mother in law. My husband was abusive, his mother witnessed it on multiple occasions and so did his sister, but when we split, and I filed for a protection order, they were the first to come at me about how he never abused me, how it couldn’t have been him, how he’s so sweet and they just can’t imagine him doing that kind of thing...while you’re sitting there going...uh...okay...took me years to come to terms with the reality that even if they witnessed it, they are his family and will always protect their own first. It’s super realistic how they are portraying Mary Louise, and even if I hate to say it I think that’s how it plays out in these scenarios more often than not. Suspicious mother in law, hell bent on convincing you that truths you know to be fact, cannot be correct because her sweet son couldn’t have done that...
