Big Sur Car Camping Help

When you say you plan to road trip up the coast and stay in Big Sur, I assume you are traveling north. Are you aware that Highway 1 has been closed due to the mudslide that took out the road on Jan 28. It won't be reopened for a few more months. This area is about 16 miles south of Big Sir. And the detour will take a few hours, going inland to Hwy 101, farther north and then back down thru Monterey.

As far as camping, it seems the area has become quite a hot mess. Check out this video as an example. It seems that much of the camping there nowadays is illegally, so...
