Bilinguals of Reddit: what's your "they didn't know I spoke their language" story?

Not mine, but a famous family story:

I'm third generation Finnish American which has no real bearing on how I live my life, but all my aunts and uncles speak Finnish.

Two of my uncles were in Minneapolis, a big city where they could kinda safely assume no given stranger would understand them. They went to a Twins game (baseball) and were waiting in line behind and old lady for ice cream - it's occurring to me just now that it was probably beer, big no no in the fam - and basically were saying in Finn, "I wish this old idiot wouldn't take so long." and after she was done ordering and paid, she flatly said in the same, "There were a lot of kinds to choose from." and left.
