I am fine with everything you said, as long as you honestly hold Muslims to the same standards that you hold others. I don't see how any true "progressive" could not be a huge critic of Islam. Oppression of women, exploitation of children, brutal sectarian violence, suppression of education, Sharia law, and violent radicalism do not sound like progressive ideals. Yet progressives seem to want to completely avoid criticizing Islam and instead take bigger issue with rednecks in the US. I'm sorry but rednecks are pretty irrelevant in the big picture. The entire international community is concerned about Islamic extremism because they have to be. I mean just look at the last decade in Europe as an example. I don't think anybody outside of small towns in the south even acknowledges rednecks exist, they hold no power, they export no terrorism, and they are laughed at and marginalized by the majority of Americans. I grew up in a small rural town on Ohio, so I know redneck culture as well as I know urban culture. I don't see rednecks as a bigger global problem than Muslim extremists. I don't know how anybody could. Also, if were talking about racism and a feeling that your culture is superior, Islam is extremely guilty of this. Preaching to your followers that "infidels" and "blasphemers" need to be put to dealt with by invoking "jihad" is why so many mosques are getting shut down in Europe. Just please look at the situations in Germany, France, Belgium, the UK etc. Expecting all Muslims to integrate into western society and adopt our respect and equality for women, let alone even basic human rights, is just not realistic while there are so many Imams and clerics preaching so much hatred. I get that progressives want to be welcoming and not prejudiced. That is all good, but just be careful when too many those you are trying to welcome care nothing for you in return.
