While I agree we ignore violence against men to a certain degree I disagree that it's equivalent to men joking about female genital mutilation.

The difference is systematic vs. an isolated event. Female genital mutilation is systemic in certain cultures and it represents sexual enslavement and oppression. So making fun of the victims is in a similar vein as making fun of slaves for having their feet amputated. This is also why you won't hear too many jokes aimed at the victims of police brutality.

Men getting their dicks chopped off by psychotic, vindictive women is not something 99.99% of men have to worry about but fear of abuse and sexual assault is applicable to most women on a daily basis.

I think the amount of attention received from this crime is ridiculous and the jokes are definitely tasteless but you have to see some correlation between all the jokes and pranks about sack tapping or getting hit in the balls and the normalisation of assaulting men's genitals.

In our cultural context (the U.S) this is more akin to another tasteless dick joke. We also (for better or for worse) see women typically as the victim (given ample historical context) and men as the aggressors / antagonists so of it seems more acceptable to shit on the "bad guy".

I'm not defending these talk show hosts for shitting on a victim, I just don't want people to take these acts into consideration without historical or cultural context (because I DON'T think they are the same)
