Bill Gates warns that nobody is paying attention to gene editing, a new technology that could make inequality even worse

we have to minimize our carbon emissions to avoid rising the average earth temperature to 2.5 degrees celsius above pre industrial levels (I think we are currently around 1.5° or something). we have 10 years to do it, otherwise reaching 2.5 will become unavoidable. the really bad effects, like putting NYC and Amsterdam under water, start happening between 3 and 4 degrees. IIRC the catastrophic/apocalyptic worst case scenario is when we reach really high numbers like 8 degrees.

in my opinion, once we reach about 3° and the very bad effects start showing up, putting an end to the climate change denial movement and making the population very concerned, it's extremely likely that we will be able to stop the temperature from rising, preventing the apocalyptic scenario and maybe we can even try to reverse the numbers. we are humans, the smartest being in whole the universe (as far as we know it). carbon, plastic bags and fossil fuels aren't going to stop the human race from thriving, we will find a way.
