Bill would prevent LGBT discrimination at religious schools

I feel like a school shouldn't be considered a private entity in this case. People don't simply change schools on a whim, they aren't simple purchases, and they won't exactly be transparent about "discriminating against LGBT". A school has an inherent connection to children, a much more vulnerable population, and they aren't quite the responsible consumer that capitalism expects you to be.

I mean, yeah, if McDonald's was found to be discriminating against LGBT, they'd probably lose a lot of money. But would a school lose much in a small town out in the boonies, that was surrounded by a generally anti-LGBT community? Imagine if the local market followed suit. Suddenly, it's vastly harder to be LGBT in this small town, not just because of the local population, but because the hindered access to jobs, resources, and alternatives. At this point, the freedoms of the private institutions seem to outweigh that of the struggling individual whose only choice is to move.

And remember, in the case of private schools, these are children. We can't exactly expect them to understand the possible subtleties of discrimination, especially when the school itself is biased towards avoiding the topic altogether. They're more likely to simply accept it as part of the curriculum, and less likely to spread the info to the public for proper scrutiny.
