I work in mental health - saw this one guy to supervise his evening medications one day. Said to my student how nice he was, how far he had come with his illness, how much better he was doing. We had a good laugh and a chat with the patient, and went on our way. Next day, less than 12 hours later, he sexually assaulted a woman and beat her so hard he was also done for attempted murder. And there was nothing to suggest that he did this because of his mental health/due to impaired capacity. He was just bad.

This one hit me hard, even after 10 years working in mental health. Lost a lot of confidence with my clinical judgement, but sometimes there just aren’t any warning signs, unfortunately.
