Bills pick at 19-Signs point to CB Mack Alexander

You're still not getting the idea that we have bigger issues than CB, like EDGE, OL, DE, LB and Safety

Edge: definitely agree we need to look at upgrading this position, but unless it's Noah Spence in the 1st, or maybe Kevin Dodd, there really isn't anyone worth a 1st round pick that will be available. Round 2 or 3 would probably be better value considering the talent in this class.

OL

I disagree that this is a need (I think Incognito and Glenn will both receive long term contracts, and I think Miller and Henderson have enough potential) but ignoring that let's look at the Nix/Whaley mantra when it comes to OL. Whaley generally seems to go BPA as much as is reasonable, and seems to emulate the idea that round 1 should be used for elite athletes. This year, the OG class looks relatively weak, so we can assume that should be off the board unless you want to kick Jack Conklin in to OG. For OT, Jack Concklin is the only player that seems to be realistically available for us at 19. He's an above-average athlete, but seems to be missing the elite mark that is keeping him out of the top 10 (as he's had a good college career, so that wouldn't keep him out). Ignoring whether he is elite/above-average, we need to go back to Nix/Whaley drafting strategies. We haven't taken a 1st round OL since Nix/Whaley have been around in 2010 (we did in 2009, but Nix was only a scout that year). Our highest pick was OT Cordy Glenn, a 2nd rounder, who was a fairly good athlete. Nix/Whaley admitted that they considered him in round 1, but even so, they decided to wait.

OL just doesn't seem to be a position Whaley would address in round 1 or put much of a premium on, unless we were top 5 and had a Walter Jones type OT staring us in the face. So that can be ruled out, not as a need, but as something we'd likely not do in round 1.

3-4DE is definitely a need, and I could see and agree with us going this route at 19 considering the class and who will likely be available. The one caveat I would add is that this class is so freakin' deep that we could get a late round 1 worthy player with pick 49, so they may decide to wait based on that.

LB - agree we need an ILB. I wouldn't mind Ragland at all were he available, though he may be of more value at the back end of round 1 or early round 2.

Safety - dont agree at all that this is a need. Graham was solid last year. Rambo was solid and will likely be back. Aaron Williams is above-average and it seems his biggest hurdle is a mental one, not a physical one, according to team doctors.

I can understand and respect (though i disagree) not wanting a CB in round 1 given our roster make up and the talent that will be available elsewhere, but our only realistic options if we don't take a CB are EDGE (one of two players), DE (one of maybe 3 that would be worth it at that point), or LB (1 player, Ragland, worth the pick). EDGE and LB could both be gone at that point, leaving DE, a position of great depth.
