I will offer this as anecdotes only ... I'll just leave this here ...

I think the mormon lifestyle is unhealthy in part because it requires members to burn the candle at both ends. The lay membership are asked to invest a lot of their "free time" in the ward. The problem is they usually already have full time jobs which include the regular stresses and rigors found in the modern workforce. If a person is already on call 24 hours, then where will they find the time to do one more thing? The stories of the bishop's family being neglected because the ward duties take precedence are common.

Add the idea that people go out as "weekend warriors" and think that they can neglect their health all week (or for months) and then climb an 11,750' mountain are all too common. It's only surprising that more don't drop dead in the attempt.
