A bit confused

1) Tougher (not impossible) to match into more competitive specialities (ortho, radiology, etc).

2) Don’t have to, but most students also take the USMLE. So two board exams: USMLE + COMLEX

3) Extra training in OMT (eats up time)

4) Often more expansive and less research opportunities

Training wise? Both are equally trained. No one knows, no one cares in practice. Going DO will be fine especially if you are interested in primary care. Personally, I thought OMT was pretty cool when I was shadowing a primary care DO. Your choice if you want to use it in practice (majority don’t). MD>DO when given the choice, but no shame if you end up in a DO program.
