Hey all, I have a white WRX I am looking to polish. After a couple weeks of research I decided I'm going to get these items:

  • DA: Maxshine M8S - I've seen this be compared to Griot's 6" DA a lot and for almost $50 less, it seems to do the trick without breaking the bank. Will the Bauer DA from Harbor Freight do just fine if I'm going to polish 1-2 cars every 4 - 6 months?

  • Pads: 3 Lake Country Orange Light Cutting Pads - Will 3 be enough for a WRX? 1 for the front of the car, 1 for both sides, one for the back. Is that reasonable? I'm not looking to get a show car look. I'd like to get rid of maybe 70% - 80% of swirls.

  • Compound/Polish: Griot's B110P Fast Correcting Cream - I'm not looking to do a 2 stage correction because the car isn't heavily swirled like this picture. Again, I'd like to get rid of maybe 70% - 80% of swirls/scratches.

  • Claybar(s)/IronX: Generic Clay Bar from Amazon and IronX - Will buying premium clay actually help or will any clay work as long as its warm/soft enough provided its lubed up (I'll be using 64:1 ONR)

  • IPA: Straight 50% alcohol in a spray bottle

My Simple Process:

1) Wash with dawn or dish soap to strip old sealant/wax from quite literally a year ago(I don't think there actually is any protection left)
2) Chemical Decon with IronX
3) Rinse
4) Mechanical Decon with Claybar and ONR diluted 64:1
5) Rinse again? Or Wipe down and dry?
6) Begin polish with 3 pads; 1 for the front of the car, 1 for both sides, one for the roof/back. 7) IPA Wipedown
8) Apply Jescar Powerlock Sealant and let cure 3 hours
8) Apply 2nd Powerlock layer? or apply Collonite 845?

2 Layers of Powerlock and 1 Collonite lasted me about 5 - 6 months of protection last time without a polish and no IPA Wipedown (I forgot to do this). It's safe to say I'll be doing this again despite some mixed thoughts on mixing the two.

I'd love to get some feedback before I go ahead and purchase these tomorrow/Monday.
