BJJ Schools in Oahu/Honolulu, Hawaii

I trained at Gracie Technics for a few months and Rylan is an absolutely phenomenal instructor. Very structured and very detailed instruction. I would assume that he may not be available to teach on some occasions due to cornering mma fights, but that is hardly an issue due to his top students taking over the teaching in his absence. Rylan's 'right-hand man', Matt, will normally take over during instruction while Rylan is away and Matt is equally as skilled an instructor as Rylan is, so it won't be like your learning experience is taking a hit if Rylan isn't available to teach. And even if Rylan and Matt aren't available (which is never the case, Matt is basically always there) there is a huge number of skilled and friendly practitioners there that are always willing to help. I don't recall if there was a women's class, but I remember there always being at least a couple women training so your friend's girlfriend should be able to find a female partner if she needs to.

Not only does Gracie Technics provide some of the best jiu jitsu in the state, you can also enroll in their Muay Thai program that's taught by one of the best Muay Thai fighters in Hawaii, Ivan Flores. Unfortunately I didn't get to participate much in the program as the program started a few months before I graduated from UH and left Oahu, but the time that I did get to train with Ivan was amazing. I follow his page on IG and classes are always full as expected.

tl;dr Rylan Lizares of Gracie Technics is an amazing instructor with a lot of knowledgeable and friendly students. Bonus if you're interested in striking, you can also enroll in Muay Thai under an equally amazing instructor, Ivan Flores. Extra bonus, you get to train with Max Holloway, Dustin Kimura, Yancy Medeiros, and other upcoming UFC/MMA fighters.
