Doesnt 'Mata' mean mother though? If i am not wrong, the country is being personified as a mother not a goddess. If they were using 'devi' instead of mata, then the country would be being personified as a godess but as it is the slogan is no different from say 'glory to our motherland'.

Regardless though, i am anyways against this kind of shallow and forced displays of patriotism. As far as i am concerned, deeds in the form of genuine contributions towards people of the society as done by soldiers, honest social helpers etc. and only such deeds show patriotism. Using such shallow displays as criteria really degrades the value of true patriots.
