Black Lives Matter marks one year in Sudbury

It should have been called Police Reform Now. For the simple and obvious fact that police reform is a "curb cut" issue. It helps everyone. Knowing that when a cop stops you at the side of the road there is a recording for everyones safety is a real improvement over the current situation. Knowing that calling for a wellness check for a family member or friend wont end with them being dragged half naked down the hall by their hair benefits everyone. Native Canadians are especially vulnerable to police misconduct and violence. "Starlight tours" are abuse.

Calling it Black Lives Matter obfuscates the goal and objectives of the movement and does allow it to be marginalized into a side issue rather than a quality of life improvement for the whole city regardless of your color. Self interest is easier to sell than empathy. In this case we should be arguing self interest.
