"Black people aren’t keeping white Americans out of college. Rich people are." Op-ed from WashingtonPost

I meant more the comments on the article than the article itself. Should have specified.

Maybe I'm not hanging around with rich enough people, but I don't know anybody who's just "walked" into any of the top universities in this country. Everyone I know who has gotten in has been absurdly qualified.

Yeah, it is a Reddit thing. Anonymity promotes vitriol. It's also not socially acceptable to be against AA, at least where I'm from, so that also keeps the discussion civil (flash half an ounce of dissent and suddenly you're the campus racist and people avoid you like the plague). Basically, where I'm from, keep your mouth shut if you're Asian, unless you want to rant about white people.

I just think the idea of AA, as a whole, is a flawed idea. How can race be a factor in admissions and the admissions not be racist? You're essentially considering something people were born with as a quality inherent to their character, which is exactly what racists did and do. And when there's a clear victim to a murky program that nobody really understands, of course there's going to be backlash.

The only problem, of course, is that expressing your emotions about Affirmative Action usually becomes vitriolic, because one side is always telling the other that their experience doesn't matter.
