Black Teen Driving With White Grandmother Handcuffed by Police Because Bystander Said He Was Robbing Her

there was an old lady whose car stalled on a free way. Cars were swerving and honking all round her. No one stopped and she was about to burst into tears. I was pulling out from a coffee shop so had a great view. I park my car, walk to her and push her car off to the shoulder. It had a transmission malfunction.

I walk this sweet but very confused old lady to the coffee shop, and no less than five cars (random strangers) slowed down to ask if she was alright and needed any help. Like my presence as a black man was a danger. One dude even told me "we can take it from here" like some super-hero, but she rebuffed the offer, saying that she's fine.

Anyway, her son came to pick her up and all was well, but it was a jarring reminder of how far we still have to go as a society.
