Black woman held in mental hospital because police didn't believe BMW was hers - woman is suing New York City after she claims she was forced to spend eight days in a mental hospital and given a $13,000 (£8,500) bill because a police officer didn’t believe the BMW she was driving was hers.

Oh I'm sure they get hassled more; but do you really think the cops are just trying to be mean? Or do you think they're taking their odds of catching someone with guns, drugs, or improper documents? Like I said, they have discretion to follow their hunches and talk to whoever they want; talking to the black person is just a safer bet that they will fill their quota or catch someone in the commission of a crime. Look at the official FBI crime stats. So the real problem is not that the police are racist, it's that black people proportionally commit more crime. More than poor immigrants, more than whites, more than Native Americans... It's a cultural issue.

I don't want to give away too much of my own background. I'm not a US citizen, but let me assure you that the relationship between crime and ethnicity is not exclusive to the US. If group x is known to be more likely to commit crime, the police will harass them more often. Because of my appearance, I've been subjected to this constantly during my time abroad. It's kind of interesting at first, and it gets annoying really fast. But I won't change society by being rude to the police or getting myself detained or arrested or beaten. Or getting them angry enough to bludgeon the next guy who fits the profile. I treat them with professional courtesy, like a necessary inconvenience. That's normal, reasonable behaviour that you expect from an adult. We don't throw tantrums. Why are blacks not expected to measure up to this standard? Whites shamed for what cops do to blacks, but blacks are not shamed for what their own people do to themselves? As a man, If cops mistake you for a criminal, you should be ashamed that you let yourself look like one, and that your community is in such a sorry state. Are these feelings and instincts absent in black people?

It seems to me that these communities are a part of your people, so you should hold them to a higher standard. Shaming works, but liberals are to cowardly and two-faced to ever use it against anyone but the white counter-example they need to appear more enlightened and tolerant.
