Blast Day Hangout Thread 05-13-17

I'm trying to imagine what I'd like to do with my back deck. It's mostly just hypothetical, because I don't really have the money for it. I've been discussing it with my dad, who's a mechanical draftsman and is generally a) handy and b) a design nerd.

In my hypothetical design I've been trying to cut costs so I might be able to afford it, but I'm hitting a slight wall. I'm thinking of covering the railing in lattice. There are 4 foot x 8 ft lattice panels on Home Depot for $19/ea, but the railing on my deck is about 3 feet tall and there's about 50 feet (lengthwise) to be covered.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that, but I'm not sure if I can just reuse the scraps so easily. In my mind it's kind of like a quilt, but I'm not sure it works like that when it's got a pattern to it and might not line up right.

Maybe /u/DenyGFX has some ideas? You always seem to know things. :P Can I just say, "well I've got 150 square feet of railing to cover and each piece of lattice is 32 square feet, so I'll buy five of them"? Or will I just end up with a bunch of mismatched, useless pieces?

I could just cut a foot off of them and buy 50ft of it, but then I think I'd have six 1ft x 8ft scrap pieces, a 1ft x 2ft scrap piece, and an entire 4ft x 6ft scrap piece leftover, and that seems wasteful.

This stuff makes no sense to me, haha. I'm sorry. :'D
