It’s not the future. It’s just overhyped because the Asian market is larger than the western market and because human psychology isn’t good at preventing you from engaging in micro transactions.

It’s also not going to last. Like 99% of trends in video gaming, this is anomalous, everyone’s going to over invest into it well after people start getting sick of it. I still remember every company wanting to have their own MMO or something akin to an MMO. I have friends who live in Beijing and they themselves are all saying Blizzard is stupid because the mobile gaming fad is already starting to die there, there are still millions of people engaged in the market but it’s on its way out according to every Chinese person I’ve spoken to.
