[Blog] The New Seiko 5 Sports Divers That'll Replace the Discontinued SKX

Water (depth) resistance is quite debatable, anyway.

I used to work on omega's sav, there watches where tested for airtightness using a dry witschi machine. For divers, if the dry test was successful, they were tested up to 125% rated pressure with a wet (roxer) machine, that is 375m equivalent for SMP and 750m equivalent for PO.

Just for kicks, i put to the test my personal (200m rated) skx007 and turned out of both of them unscathed. Talk about quality.

I had some used cases to play with, as replaced parts under warranty usually are not returned to the customer and would end up in the trash, anyway so I put the 300 all the way down to 750m. The watch turned out watertight but the caseback was slightly but noticeably bent inwards. No such thing on the seiko, as is quite thick (as the one on the PO is)

I would bet the case construction and all gaskets are the same as on the SKX so it can co as deep with a proper caseback (I guess the limiting factor is the display back)
