Boerboels are about as evil and hard to handle as Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas

You have had good experiences with the specimens you have met, which is great

I watched my sister get her nose almost ripped off by a rott the age of 6. Not all is great, but that experience doesn't help anyone and it's not something I can apply to anything other than knowing for myself what aggression can lead to. I was 6, so there you go with that. All other cases were the usual neglect with the exception here or there due to just personality. It does happen, but fortunately I'm not in the business of having several dogs. I'm good on focusing on her and the smaller breed we will be adopting eventually (working with the local animal rescue for a rescue that would be ideal for our home and for our dog. Trying to make sure we get a smaller fixed male with the right temperament that isn't too old or too young. It's probably going to take a while for a dog like that to be in need of a rehoming situation. Especially since we can't take a rescue from a neglect situation. Too risky.)

What does help is understanding why temperament testing is very important. Obviously not the end all or the prevent all, but it is a good start for a good fit.

Every dog comes with challenges but guardian-protector breeds can so easily cross lines.

Some people look at me funny when I mention it, but this is the thing that makes me a little weary about when I will go into labor, if it happens around her. I'm the object of her protection. She hasn't displayed any aggression (yet), except for when a moose got in the yard, but she will put herself between and anything that startles her or she wasn't expecting. Working on that to focus it correctly. It's not a bad thing, just needs to be used right so she knows the when and how.

So! As a community, we don't, use fear mongering, at least I don't see it that way.

As a community whenever I've lurked here from time to time, that has been the case. But in that post, it was extreme cases being used as examples. Most boerboels (when handled correctly, of course) are great dogs. It's fine to show those, but that's not even what to expect and if someone came across one like mine, they may get lazy thinking they lucked out, then the drive kicks in, and THAT is how you get your bad situations.
