Bombed my first technical interview

This might be a bit of a strange recommendation, but... when you mentioned the part about "skipping eating", I instantly knew you are exactly like me in this regard!

Like you, I get a lot of VERY STRONG anxiety, and panic, before a job interview, or a university test/exam, to the point in which I can NOT eat.

No amount of "psychological counselling" or general tips from friends and family (such as "just relax... you'll be fine... etc...") was ever able to cure me of this anxiety.

No one has ever been able to change this quality in me, least of me, no matter how hard I try. It's just who I am: you can love me, or hate me... but that's a part of my personality I can't change.

However, I did find a solution that works for me that works at key important moments in life (such as interview and exams)...

But it is a bit of an unusual solution...

Essentially I just take 100 mg of caffeine (in pill form) about 1 hour (or 1.5 hours) before the interview, or exam!

That's it! It does the trick, and literally works like a charm!

It doesn't take away the nervousness... but it seems to change the... "tone" of the nervousness within me.

So instead of my nervousness seeming to have that "dread" and "fear" and "panicky" kind of tone inside of me, it transforms into a positive nervousness, as in:

"I'm so nervous and anxious to get to this interview (or take this test) because I can rule the world! I'm f--king awesome! In fact, I should just march right into the interviewers office, and bust down the door, and dazzle them with my brilliance!"

So yes, it causes me to become overconfident... but overconfidence is necessary at a few select moments in life!

It also seems to make me incredibly more upbeat, cheery, social... and people seem to pick up on my positive vibes, and just tune into me more.

But perhaps MOST IMPORTANTLY, for some reason, it seems to act like a turbo boost for my memories, letting me access my memory of facts, and important info, much more quickly and easier.

Again, these effects are perfect, for what you need to get through an interview, or difficult test/exam once in a while, if you have a bit of a panic/anxiety/fear reaction like me, to interviews and tests.

However... I should say that I am EXTRA sensitive to the effects of caffeine for some strange reason.

It's effects seem to be a notch higher on me, compared to most people I know.

So not sure if 100 mg will be enough for you... but it is certainly MORE than plenty for me.

Also, if you drink coffee, or caffeinated beverages more than once during the day, then the effects of caffeine will become muted on you.

In fact, I once read a science article that said people who use caffeine several times during the day, to give themselves a caffeine hit frequently (ie: coffee... drinks, chocolate, etc...) will often experience a reverse rebound effect:

They will suddenly get extremely sluggish and sleepy... which then prompts them to take another caffeine hit... and that makes the cycle even worse, causing them to have a more intense "sleepy" lethargic response....

So I actually do NOT take any caffeine products in my day to day life anymore.

Thus, those couple of times per year, when I need, and I pop that 100mg tablet of caffeine, it feels like I become king of the world, for a few hours.

Interestingly, when I told this to one of my friends, he tried it to see if it would boost him during his soccer matches (since he had just joined a soccer league) and claimed it gave him a spike in performance and scoring!

But again, he had to stop consuming caffeine during most times of his daily life... to get that maximum long lasting boost, for those times when he really needed it.

And finally... if you are NOT used to caffeine like me... and do not take it in everyday life... then on those days when you do take it, be warned:

You might not be able to fall asleep very easily that night! (And when you do fall asleep, your sleep will be more "shallow".

But hey... if you only take it a couple of times per year... for interviews, or an exam... then it's worth it!
