Is bone loss with IBD reversible?

I completely relate to the way you feel about this. Knowing the chronic, degenerative effects of IBD and the related treatments can be really disheartening. When you dwell on this stuff, it can make your future seem so bleak and you can't help but picture a slow, sad decline into worse and worse stages of general disease.

However, just know that this condition doesn't have to define you like that. There are ways to overcome these negative effects and even exceed the capacities of regular functioning individuals. You will have the added complication of managing inevitable setbacks, but the best course of action is to fight your illness and not succumb to it.

To manage the wasting effects of IBD and its treatments, I recommend a strength training regimen supplimented by a in increased protein intake and calcium supplementation.

Strength training is proven to improve bone strength and density, as well as improve other risk factors for osteoporosis and sarcopenia (muscle wasting) 1 2 3 . Resistance training also provides multiple other health benefits which increase general health and reduce morbitity across the board (cardiovascular, metabolic, immune function etc etc).

If you would like, I can give you specific advice tailored to your age, gender, goals and experience level if you message me.

Keep your chin up! This isn't the end.
