boogie2988 reacts to fatpeoplehate ban

Please don't hate on this guy, particularly in this context. The comments seem to be going rather well, but I still want to say this.

He nailed it. If he gets hate for making the point properly, then the haters are truly just haters. What's worse, it will give the mods/company ammunition to back up their decisions. They have enough of that on the front page, but that is just the to be expected reactionary response to the rediculousness of the situation. Not to say it would prove them right, because they aren't right. Clearly, they're satisfying a specific set of people, seemingly people that have no idea of how deep reddit's depravity can go.

This is a basic argument for free speech, in the end. And exactly, as he puts it, technically we don't have the right to free speech here, but free speech is exactly why reddit became successful. If this goes through, not to mention they're sad attempt at cutting off more heads by banning new versions that have cropped up, then this sight simply will not be what it was, and users will leave. Other users will come. It may be profitable for them in the end, but reddit will no longer be "the front page of the internet".

Censorship doesn't protect people. Censorship gives people a false sense of security, it obscures a reality that people should be aware of, so that they can properly protect themselves, as they see fit.

r/fatpeoplehate did tend to leak from it's shores in recent months. I saw some posts that downright encouraged giving a fat people a hard time completely unsolicited. It was probably inevitable that something like this was coming, but this has been handled sooooo poorly, and they haven't changed tactics so far.

Maybe, admin should have made a highly public post directly within the subreddit that warned against harrasment. Maybe, they should have made examples of some people by showing how they went after people without provocation (while censoring the usernames), and banning them. Maybe, they should have tried to fix it.

Instead, they've chosen to make war with a huge portion of their userbase. I hope this doesn't break reddit, I love this site.

Anyway, this guy basically nails it, and not only is he fat, but he's personally been given shit by the very sub he is defending (or concept of speech, anyway). He's like a guy with an Xbox that subscribes to pcmasterrace, because he understands computers, but he just really wants a console.

Champion this video, and do it without giving the guy any real shit.

Also, I've always liked this guy.
